A survey carried out by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has found that remote working was the most popular form of flexible working during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The survey of more than 900 firms found that 66% of employers offered remote working to their employees. 72% of businesses said that they will have at least one member of staff working remotely over the next year, the survey revealed.

However, a number of firms cited monitoring productivity, poor internet connectivity and IT issues as barriers to implementing remote working.

Commenting on the survey, Jane Gratton, Head of People Policy at the BCC, said: 'During the pandemic, many employers have learned how to manage and motivate people working from home.

'They've also experienced the advantages of an agile workforce in terms of diversity, skills and productivity. It's vital that businesses have access to clear guidance, information and best practice resources to help them embrace the broadest range of remote, workplace and flexible working options as we emerge from the pandemic.'
